DropZone Networks, Inc.Product: IntelliEdge Wireless Server
Description: DropZone’s IntelliEdge Platform enables wireless mobile broad-band
applications anywhere. IntelliEdge defines a new prod-uct
class by combining a multi-protocol, self-powered wireless
router and an application server in one package. By enabling
running of intelligent applications and services on the edge of
the network and operating on solar power, IntelliEdge address-es
mesh network architecture latency and multi-hop deteriora-tion
issues and opens up new strategic vistas and value propo-sitions
for metroWLAN, WVoIP, ruralWLAN, and outdoor
WLAN networks.
DEMO says: DropZone Networks would be interesting enough as a rapidly
and cost-effectively deployed metro-area mesh network. A
location-aware network in which each node has built-in GPS,
DropZone Networks enables a range of edge-of-network
applications that combine location and sensing to deliver new
capabilities. It is the applications that build on the DropZone
network that make this technology beyond interesting.
Market Outlook: IntelliEdge addresses multi-billion dollar market opportunities by
enabling applications that are not dependent on AC power,
providing an alternative to enterprise rural security applications
that require expensive backhaul and power infrastructures, and
empowering service providers to provide wireless mobile high
ARPU services, and rural VoIP, that drive faster ROI.
Funding: $300,000 investment from founder and initial private seed
investor, who is serving as chairman and Seed Stage CEO.
Launching a Series A VC round at DEMOmobile.
Competitors: Basic connectivity mesh network equipment vendors playing in
the municipal market, but not others. Markets we are targeting
include Tropos, Belair, and Skypilot.
