Description: Skype for Pocket PC is free and simple-to-use software that lets
you make voice calls using your Wi-Fi-enabled Microsoft Pocket
PC handheld computer from any hot spot. Developed specifically
for PDA devices, it contains the same core features of regular
Skype software, including free Skype-to-Skype worldwide calling,
free Skype conference calling, instant messaging, online pres-ence,
contact lists, and calls to landline and mobile telephone
numbers.
DEMO says: Skype’s PC-based voice-over-IP telephony service, though just offi-cially
launched in late July, has taken the world by storm. In this
version for Pocket PC, Skype delivers the features we’ve been
waiting for called SkypeOut. Customers now have the ability to
call any phone number anywhere in the world, effectively turning
a Wi-Fi-enabled PDA into a very low-cost mobile phone device,
with a calling plan that just can’t be beat.
Market Outlook: Global telecommunications market is $750B (July 26, Fortune
Magazine). Cross-border VoIP traffic had grown to just under
19B minutes by 2002, about 11% of the world's international
traffic and up from 150M minutes (.02%) in 1998 (PriMetrica &
TeleGeography 2004).
